IPOB Linked To Christian Genocide Claims + Atiku Decries Niger Road After Tanker Tragedy | Ojy Okpe
In Niger State, 42 people were killed in Katcha Local Government Area, after a gasoline-laden tanker crashed and exploded while residents were attempting to scoop petrol.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago called the tragedy worrisome, with eyewitnesses confirming that the high fatality was due to the victims ignoring warnings to not scoop petrol.
It comes as Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar blamed the tanker incident on the poor state of the Bida-Badeggi-Agaie Road as a key route connecting Nigeria’s North and South.
An investigative report by The Cable's open-source intelligence unit revealed that social media accounts linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) played significant roles in amplifying claims of a "Christian genocide" in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Christian Association of Nigeria publicly faulted a statement by Presidential aide Daniel Bwala for falsely suggesting that the association referred to attacks on Christians as a "so-called Christian genocide."
In similar news, religious leaders at a roundtable in Abuja criticised the widespread culture of impunity surrounding mob killings in the name of blasphemy, lamenting that those responsible are seldom prosecuted.
