Nnamdi Kanu’s Life Sentence+ ISWAP Terrorist Handed 20 Years +US Debate On Nigeria Genocide|OjyOkpe


The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu was sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted of terrorism by a Federal High Court in Abuja. The federal government's prosecutor had requested the death penalty, but the judge stated that he opted for life imprisonment to show mercy.

Outside the court the lead prosecutor, Adegboyega Awomolo stated that this single decision has brought an end to injustice and oppression faced by people in the eastern states of Nigeria.

However, Kanu’s legal counsel Aloy Ejimakor vowed to challenge the life sentence, insisting that Kanu is not a terrorist.

Meanwhile, one of the leaders of ISWAP, Hussaini Ismaila, was convicted of terrorism offences and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

In another development from Washington D.C., Congressman Bill Huizenga fought back tears over the killings of Christians in Nigeria during the U.S. Africa Subcommittee public hearings.

It came as a Senior Fellow and Director of the Africa Program at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, Oge Onubogu, also spoke at the hearings about the dangers of oversimplifying insecurity in Nigeria to a Christian genocide.
